It doesn’t matter if it’s a weekend trip up to Seattle or Vancouver, or a week or more anywhere, I almost always over-pack. I try to think of everything that could happen and make sure I am prepared for it. I always think its a good idea, until I have to lug that crap around the whole time. Well, unsurprisingly, I pretty much do the same thing when it comes to hiking and camping trips.
I just can’t help it. I don’t want to be caught off guard, especially in the wilderness. However, that stuff is always attached to me, which makes it a bit tougher. There’s always a back-and-forth in my mind of what is absolutely necessary and what can be left behind. Although, like a lot of things, keeping it simple is the best policy.

Keep your mind on your objectives and purpose, as well as approach packing like your adventure planning: do it ahead of time!
