I turned 33 yesterday. It was a barn-burner of a party. I haven’t been a big birthday person for quite awhile now, and when I tell people that I get two reactions. One being the “Yeah, I get it,” and the “Really???? Why not?!” It’s not I hate birthdays, it’s more so after a certain age, what’s the point?
We are in an age where technology has never been better. The Healthcare industry has never been more advanced, and I am very lucky to be in a place where I don’t have to worry about acquiring food and water. I didn’t survive the plague, I don’t have to worry about a rival tribe sacking my village, or a wild animal snatching me when I am out looking for food. So to go all out for surviving another year is a bit much in my mind.
If you can believe it, this is an improvement though. I used to be one of those insufferable anti-birthday people. The one that had to wax on why it’s so stupid, but then I realized no one likes that person, ever. But I’ve come around to them a bit now, and will actually participate in them. Yeah look at me, growing and whatnot.
I think it’s because I’ve been to a couple for my niece and nephew, and to see their reactions to them are pretty cool. Plus when you’re turning five, you’re celebrating 20% of your life, not .03%, if that makes sense? So yeah, go nuts kid.
What I do love about them though is hearing from everyone. Whether it’s a Facebook post, text, email, message, cards, etc. it’s nice to hear from everyone, if only a brief exchange. As much as Social Media can be a hindrance, it can be a great tool as well. So thanks again for the messages, and I might even celebrate it in the next 10 years.
