This has been the weirdest year ever. I leave the country and everything gets turned on its head. The Cubs win the World Series, the Detroit Lions are in first place, and Western Michigan is 10-0. Insanity.
I’ve always had a soft-spot for the MAC (Mid-American Conference) teams, mainly because they are always used as a punching bag for Big Ten teams trying to pad their schedule. So whenever some U of M slappy brought up their undefeated record, there was always at least two MAC wins, usually against a team looking at two wins on the year.
Western hasn’t slayed any dragons, but have two wins against Big Ten teams (Northwestern and Illinois). Northwestern was coming in with high hopes, and both teams attract bigger recruits. But the real story here is PJ Fleck, their head coach.
When ESPN announced they would bring College GameDay to Kalamazoo, Fleck gave a great speech about he wants people to flood the campus and the city to showcase Kalamazoo. Now I haven’t been there in a few years, but yeesh man. Not sure if that’s a ‘showcase’ city.
I hope Western runs the table, I hope they get a bowl game against some Big 12 or Pac 12 team that is high on themselves, and I hope they crush them. The MAC is back baby!
