Gear I Use: Outbound Half-Zip

I wanted one of these for a long time, and had no idea why. I spend a lot of time outdoors in colder temperatures, but I am by no means a skier. However, I had always heard about what quality Spyder products are, and this one is no different.

While this is a perfect pullover for hiking and snowboarding (used it once), I have also gotten a lot of use for it around town and for traveling. Now I’m not wearing this to any dinners or formal events, but if its cold and I am just running to the shops, gym, or a casual night out its in play.

I also use it for air travel in the winter, as its light-weight, warm, and easy to store if you get too warm, which brings me to this next point: this thing keeps you warm! Unless you’re summiting Everest, you pretty much need a t-shirt underneath and you’re good to go. I’ve hiked with that setup in December, in the Cascades, and was sweating earlier than normal.

Another great feature is the color combinations and choices you get. Even if you can’t find the one you want in the store, you can order it online. I do recommend trying one on before ordering, as even the medium seemed a bit roomy. I was able to order mine at US Outdoor in Portland, and they were phenomenal, as always.

You can find it anywhere from £100 down to around £70. They also make more lightweight varieties and full zip ones as well. I will definitely be looking into more products like this when I need to replace worn out soft shells.
